Kevin's Travel Will Continue at Seattle University

Hi Family and Friends,

There have been some requests to continue my blog and capture the life of Seattle and at my university. Therefore, in the next day or two, I will be updating the blog with pictures of the campus, classes, and a little of the Seattle skyline.

I want to send a big shout out to all my friends back at the Shanghai Business School (Shanghai Shangxueyuan). I miss all of you very much. Since I have come back, I have been thinking about when I will return. It was major cultural shock to be back home. I was like forks, what is that? I only use chop sticks (kuaizi). Starting this Wednesday, I begin Chinese 200 for the Fall quarter. For the next two years, I will be living the Xavier Global House. This means each floor has different language themes. I am on the third floor. Our theme is Japanese and Chinese. On the first floor, there are all the language teachers for French, Arabic, Japanese, African studies, and of course Chinese (Hanyu, Putonghua). I met Qian Laoshi. She will be my Chinese teacher. When we met on Saturday morning, I spoke to her in Chinese for 15 minutes straight. I could not have done with the help of the student helpers in China. Because the study abroad trip, my confidence grew dramatically. And at that moment in time, I felt like I was back in Shanghai at SBS with all my newly made Chinese friends.

Unlike at the Shanghai Business School where four students dorm together, it is max of three students, and usually two students at Seattle University. However, I am the exception. I have a room designed for two students, yet I have it to myself. This is because the university wanted to play it safe with my food allergies. It's very roomy. Just look at the pictures.

In addition, there are commercial airplanes that fly over head about every 5 minutes. I will look up and think how one day not in the too distant future I will be on one of those planes flying toward China, to Shanghai, and other provinces within the country.

There is a lot more to come as the next quest of my life begins at SU. I want to thank the student helpers, Mr. Feng, and all of the faculty I was in contact with at the Shanghai Business School for letting me have such a wonderful experience. As for you (the student helpers) who welcomed me into your lives, I want you all to know that if you ever want to visit Seattle, I am here for you.

Keep posted and best wishes,

Kevin
